IOU Labs Presents: Bussing Out

Bussing Out is an immersive art installation set in the top deck of a 70s bus, produced by University of Bradford-based arts organisation, Theatre in the Mill, written and directed by Artistic Director Dr Shabina Aslam

Taking place between 1965 and 1980, ‘bussing out’ was an educational policy, that stated no school should have more than 30 per cent immigrants on roll, or they had to be taken to other schools.

The project brings to life memories of those affected by bussing out via a bus journey through Bradford, alongside animation and black and white photographs, shown through the windows of the bus, during an 18-minute art installation also featuring audio of young passengers talking on the last day of school.

You are invited to spend time in the space with the sequences, create your own connections and narratives, and to embrace the stillness.

Together, the sequences and sound create a visual space that celebrates interpretation, misinterpretation, allowing you to develop your own narratives and become an active participant in the experience.

Bussing Out is available for group bookings between 3-13 Feb – please EMAIL  for booking details.
